Project Description

Country: USA

Location: La Mesa

Total Budget: $4,200

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Literacy

Summary: I am providing for the third graders at a Title 1 school - essay contest

We will be partnering with an organization called Bikes For Kids (bikesforkidsfoundation.org). We will purchase the kids and helmets at $60 per set x 70 bikes & helmets = $4,200. We will need 12 Rotarians to pick up the bikes and helmets from Chula Vista. The bikes will be built at one of our member's place of business. The assembly date will be set & we will need 15 Rotarians to assemble them. We will get a container company to donate a container & transport the bikes to the school. We will meet with the principle to create an essay contest for the kids.

Last year we gave away 95 bicycles and helmets. This year we have targeted La Mesa Dale Elementary, which is a Title 1 school. We estimate that we will give away around 65 to 70 bicycles & helmets. We will have a better idea of numbers once the shcool year starts. The giveaway will be in December of 2015
