We have identified a need for nutritious vegetables for our seniors and low income residents. We have utilized a survey in conjunction with our 2 partners, Burkburnett Grace Ministries and The Times Record News, our major newspaper. This is along term commitment. Our club has already invested over $5,000 in this project to date in fencing and planting beds.
We as a club have already collected about 10 large boxes of various vegetable seeds.
We tried to drill for water but hit oil. Therefore, it was determined our next move would be to place two large tanks and place water collections in place community buildings and collect rain water to fill the tanks. We have several teams designated already to collect and haul water for this garden.
Our club will be involved in leveling the spot for the tanks, providing labor to layer the base of the tanks with river water and then assisting in running PVC pipes to each garden bed so they will connect to soaker hoses and water the plants as needed.
This has now been accepted as a long term project for our club. Our goal is to be ready for spring planting.
