Project Description Country: USA Location: San Diego Total Budget: $60,000 Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Health: General Summary: Audio/Visual Teaching DVD and Lesson Plan for High School level students re Immunization Produce a 30 minute Audio/Visual study unit DVD and lesson plan for high school level students on the subject of immunization to ensure disease prevention and basic education to obtain better health. District 5340 Immunization Committee formed in support of Rotary's Polio Plus Campaign to improve immunization rates in San Diego County. Committee focused on ability to reduce or eliminate communicable diseases that previously caused disability and death by Chicken Pox, Measels, Mumps, Pertussis, Polio, Small Pox, Rubella, H. Influenza Meningitis and Hepatitis. Working in conjunction with other agencies, have improve the immunization rate from it's previous 50% level to over 86%. Owing to the failure of parents to be sufficiently educated on the need for immunization, experienced first Measles outbreak in 17 years in 2008. 2012, State of Illinois experienced major Measles outbreak. CA Whooping Cough epidemic 2010. 2009 global pandemic H1N1 Influenza. This project will educate those individuals who will be responsible for ensuring proper immunization occurs for future generations. Completion date 12-31-12. Film creation/lesson plan and distribution.
