Project Description Country: USA Location: Phoenix, AZ Total Budget: $12,000 Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development Activity Type: Community Development: General Summary: United States This is a multiple club project with Phoenix 100 as the lead club. Litchfield Park, Sun City West, Sun City and Glendale West will also participate in this project. Kitchen on the Street (KOS) is one part of a multi-project program called Operation Step Ladder that Phoenix 100 will carry out next year to assist struggling families in the Phoenix Area. This project is focused on feeding the children of poor families. KOS is a 501c3 organization that purchases/procures healthy foods that are sorted and assembled by volunteers, then distributed to school children in need. The children involved are all on the Free and Reduced Lunch program for Title 1. Most of these students do not get healthy meals when away from school (weekends and holidays) KOS is working to fill this gap. Rotarians supplemented by other volunteers will pack the food which is distributed to the needy children by the schools. Thirty or more Rotarians and volunteers will be assigned at least three different packing dates. The packing dates will be established when funds are delivered.
