Summary: Provide classroom furnishings for the Petersburg Childrens Center expansion
The Petersburg Childrens Center a 501c3 non profit founded in 1974 has outgrown its existing facility with over 50 children on a waiting list for high-quality child care while working towards the positive growth and development of all children in the community. The building expansion project began in October of 2015 through local donations and volunteer labor which to date is over 800 hours, some of those hours donated by local Rotarians. The expansion will allow about 25 of those children on the wait list to enroll, which will allow parents to join the local workforce and hopefully have a positive effect on their family income and financial stability. The project had many unexpected costs with a sprinkler system and fire alarm totally over $25,000.00 just to name a few. This has caused a shortfall for being able to purchase classroom furnishings that will include tables, chairs, shelving, changing tables and supplies. The goal for the project was to have the new classrooms opened in May 2016. We have a club commitment of $2000.00 upon approval of the District Grant which would allow us to contribute $4000.00 towards the approximately $8500.00 needed.
