In conjunction with the Parker Community Senior Center, the Parker Rotary Club has recognized a great need in our community that we hope the grant committee will consider funding.
La Paz County is vastly rural and has one of the oldest populations per capita in the nation, many of them are Veterans. A large number of Veterans need to travel over 150 miles to access services in Prescott at the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System. Often, due to this geographic distance and lack of public transportation our Veterans are limited/prohibited from accessing this much needed health care.
The Senior Center has an existing transportation service that takes Veterans to the VA Lake Havasu Clinic. However, services are limited at this clinic. If this District Grant is approved, the Senior Center will be able to incorporate weekly round trip transportation for Veterans for their medical appointments in Prescott, AZ. The Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System (NAVAHCS) is a Joint Commission-accredited, complexity level three facility that provides a continuum of primary and secondary level medical, rehabilitative and long-term care to Veterans.
Project Start Date: After grant approval, a press release explaining the grant and the application process will be sent to the local newspapers: The Parker Pioneer. The staff at Senior Center will have the information communicated their newsletter.
Project Completion Date: One year from grant approval.
Budget: A budget of $6000 would provide for the cost of fuel, vehicle maintenance and insurance for the existing transportation service currently offered at the Senior Center to now make the weekly trip to Prescott, AZ. Drivers are volunteers from the Senior Center and the Parker Rotary Club.
