Project Description Country: USA Location: Holdrege Total Budget: $2,600 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: General Summary: To provide backpacks with school supplies for 161 elementary age students in Phelps County Nebraska. (THIS IS THE PRIORITY PROJECT FOR THE HOLDREGE ROTARY CLUB.)The four elementary schools in Phelps County have identified 161 families who are financially unable to provide a backpack and school supplies for their children. Our goal, in cooperation with the Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church and the Phelps County Women's Giving Group, is to supply backpacks and school supplies at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year. The number of students in need has grown by 10-20% based on the previous four (4) years numbers. Each backpack and supplies cost roughly $16.15. Funding needs to be secured by the end of June 2016. Families will sign up from June 25-July 20. Lists of needed supplies will be provided by each school and a committee from Spirit of Grace will purchase the supplies. Volunteers from Spirit of Grace and the Holdrege Rotary Club will fill the backpacks the first week of August.
