Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Gelndale

Total Budget: $3,017

Area of Focus: Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Provide a safe 'Trunk or Treat' (IE: Trick or Treat) environment at Challenger MS for students & neighborhood children.

The Sun City Rotary Club seeks to expand and deepen both our international footprint and our relationship with the families of Interacters and other students at Challenger Middle school - recognizing that many of these families are first generation immigrants from very troubled regions of the world. (We also recognize that a number of these parents are very likely to include business people who understand community service and may benefit from local Rotary connections. In addition, these people intimately understand conditions in their homelands which could potentially benefit from Sun City Rotary assistance. Engage them to discover new ideas in International Service.

The Trunk of Treat will be put on by Rotarians and volunteers on school grounds in cooperation with Challenger Middle School and the Glendale School District and will be open to all families in the surrounding area of Glendale, AZ. Based on our participation in Challenger's annual Family Thanksgiving Dinner, we anticipate a participation of 1,000 to 1,500 people.

The festivities include up to 30 cars with decorated trunks, games and candy. Many of the games will be

homemade yard games, such as beanbag toss, Angry Birds, lawn bowling, corn hole, plinko and ring toss.

These games will be built by Sun City Rotarians and Challenger MS and Washington HS Interacters - and will be donated to Challenger MS following the event.

Project should be completed by November 2016.
