Approximately 65% of youth and children live under the poverty line and avenues of activity are scarce in the public arena. The project will provide new opportunities for youth in Breckenridge to enjoy additional recreational activities in a safe environment.
The Breckenridge Rotary Club will be cooperating with the City of Breckenridge in the replacing of outdated and worn out playground equipment with new equipment in conjunction with the installation of a new skateboard park in the city park. We are requesting $1500 in District Grant Funds, which the club will match to total $3,000, to put toward the city's goal of $75,000, which will then be matched with another $75,000 from Texas Parks and Wildlife. The City of Breckenridge has asked the Breckenridge Rotary Club (and other civic organizations) to partner with them in this endeavor to make a useful facility that will be utilized and that the community can take pride in.
In addition to providing $3,000 ($1500 District plus $1500 Club funds), the club membership will assist with the physical labor of prepping the area, some tree trimming, and removal of some equipment from the horseshoe pit location to make way for the installation of the skateboard park and associated equipment.
