Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Greeley Colorado

Total Budget: $5,000

Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: To provide Greeley/Evans SD6 necessary supplies to start school and promote immunization at a community event

For many families in School District 6 (Greeley/Evans Colorado) it is impossible to provide the school supplies necessary for their students to get a quality education in today's world because of a lack of financial resources. Greeley Redeye Rotary has the opportunity to partner with other community organizations to level the playing field so that each student in the district can start with all the tools they need to start their school year confidently. The community has identified a need to supply a backpack and school supplies for students in need in the schools. SD6 free and reduced lunch population is over 90% in some schools in the district and an average of 62%. Community partners come together to meet this need. The identified total need is 2500 backpacks with supplies for the school year 2016-17. RedEye Rotary goal is to provide at least 300 needy students' backpacks at a total cost of $5000 towards the total effort by SD6 at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year. This is approximately $16.67 per backpack including supplies. SD6 will screen the families that are eligible. Our club will meet to stuff backpacks prior to the distribution which will occur on August 13,2016. The backpacks will include our Rotary information. At the distribution site which is a community fair, our Rotary club will be one of 60 community organizations to assist in distribution and provide information for school families. We will be wearing our Rotary t-shirts. Our club will also have an information booth at the community fair that will support our ongoing club emphasis on immunization and provide "polio pinkie" markers as a visible reminder to families to get their students immunized so that students can be healthy.
