Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Summary: Purchase mobile computer lab with 30 Google Chromebooks for Gate City Elementary, School District 25

Gate City Elementary school is in need of a mobile computer lab to be shared among 18 classrooms. The mobile lab consists of a cart with charging connection including 30 Google Chromebook computers plus operating licenses. The school building is equipped with electrical power and wireless service to support these computers. Secure storage is provided for the mobile computer lab when not in use. The school district funds maintenance of classroom computers. Teachers are trained in the use of classroom computers.

Teachers request this procurement which is consistent with Pocatello-Chubbuck School District 25 classroom technology policy (see school board minutes in supporting documents section). Chromebook computers add value because: The price is low and affordable; It boots up fast—and we all know how each second counts in the classroom; Many of the applications can be run offline; It has a built-in security monitoring system; Many user-friendly apps, often free for teachers such as Google Apps for Education - GAFE, are available; Convenient touch screen provides the feel of a tablet with the functionality of a laptop giving it greater use in the lower grades. Content can be accessed anywhere, anytime—everything is saved "in the cloud."

The CDW Government quote to SD25 of $7,327.70 for 30 computers/licenses at $196.09 each and mobile cart/chargers at $1,445.00 is in the supporting documents section. Gate City Elementary Parent Teacher Organization has raised $2,500 toward this purchase. Pocatello Centennial Rotary Club pledges $2,000. This total $4,500 exceeds 100% of requested $2,827.70 DDF matching funds. Pocatello Centennial Rotary Club will provide additional funding if the final purchase cost exceeds this quote.
