Health: General
Summary: Provide emergency basic hygiene, related health products and warm clothing for elementary school children in Gillette, WY.
Counselors, Administrators and school nurses in the seventeen elementary schools in Gillette, Wyoming are needing to spend their own money on basic hygiene, health and clothing for students needing help within their schools. Even before the downturn in the coal, oil and gas industries, there were often students lacking basic hygiene and health items and warm clothing. One elementary school reported needing such items as shampoo, deodorant, foot/shoe powder, under wear, socks, toothpaste and toothbrushes and mini-pads for the girls. This grant would help schools to provide such clothing items as sweatpants, warm coats, jackets or sweaters, mittens, gloves, hats and scarves. Another school needed to be able to help with eyeglasses. We truly believe that students can't learn well when they are worried about their personal needs or warm clothing. Rotary members will visit with the elementary principals, the counselors and nurses about the project and to deliver the dictionaries to the third grade students.
