Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Twin Falls

Total Budget: $2,470

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Provide up to 5 Tricycles to locally disabled Children and Adults through Amtryke, Adaptive Cycling of Southern Idaho

Many people in our area are dealing with various disabilities, in the form of physical ailments, mental disorders, emotional, psychological, and various other types of disabilities. Mobility is a mainstay of the human endeavor. When this concept is impeded, it is important for the physical and psychological health to use all necessary resources to alleviate and or resolve this impediment. The local chapter of Amtryke, Adaptive Cycling of Southern Idaho, is a charity that provides mobility to our local disabled children and adults by providing them with special tricycles built specifically for their individual disabilities, and allows them to exercise parts of their body that otherwise are completely immobile, while having fun. The tricycles are assembled locally and the club would help to purchase as many tricycles as possible and then participate in the assembly of each tricycle and be there when they are given to the recipient. Due to the different nature of each bike there is not a set price per bike, however we approximate them to be about $500 a bike and we hope to purchase 5 bikes total with the grant. All tricycles are given to the person that needs it at no cost to them as the bikes are very expensive and without this charity the recipients could not afford them. Without Amtryke our local children and adults rely solely on their caregiver, with the Amtryke they can feel the freedom on the wind in their hair driven by their own power. For them this is the most satisfying feeling in the world.

The 2016-17 club president cannot be the primary contact person for the grant. The grant application will require the signatures of both the primary contact person (grant manager) and the 16-17 president. You cannot serve in both capacities. You need to assign the contact role to someone else. Also...you should add the cost of a tricycle to your description so as to give an indication of how many people you'd be helping with this grant. Thanks!

Sandy March has been added as an administrator for your project. She now has rights to make the changes needed. If she doesn't have a password already (from a prior year), the system will generate one for her: this may take up to 18 hours for her to receive an email with the password.

contacted Adaptive Cycling the local Amtryke chapter and let them know we are ready to order some bikes for the disabled. We plan to do an order now and an order in the spring. We were able to dedicate $2100 at this time.

The club met with Adaptive cycling and put together 4 tricycles after we completed the construction of the tricycles the recipients came over and were able to pick up their bikes and give them a try. Everyone had a huge smile on their face and were so very excited to get their very own bike to ride like their siblings. Each bike is specifically designed for the children so they can ride them with their disability.
