Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Idaho Falls Idaho

Total Budget: $5,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Literacy

Summary: To fight illiteracy and poverty one book and one student at a time

In Idaho Falls School District 91, 58.85% of the KG through 6th grade children fall below the Poverty Line and their families are receiving free and discounted lunches while at school. That translates to almost 2,000 families who struggle to feed their children. These families typically do not have the resources to purchase books for their children. It has long been acknowledged that poor literacy in America contributes to multi-generational poverty. The Idaho Falls Rotary would like to support The Idaho Falls School Districts', One District One Book project by purchasing 1,111 books @ $4.50 for a project amount of $5,000. These books will reach over 1,111 families and more than 3,000 children. The new book selection will be geared for ages K-6 for parents and caregivers to read to the children.
