Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Pocatello-Gate City

Total Budget: $5,000

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Education: Volunteer Services

Summary: Storage Building for Clothes and supplies, to help homeless school children in Pocatello, Idaho, USA.

Rotary Club of Pocatello - Gate City along with McKinney-Vento Program in School District 25, of Pocatello, Idaho have identified some student support services throughout our community for school age students. The McKinney-Vento Program has identified over the last five years an increasing population of school age students a need for indigent services. Currently the McKinney-Vento program works to provide, Food; pantries, backpacks, food boxes, free breakfast and lunch; School Supplies; Medical attention: eye care, mental health services; Financial assistance for clothing, fuel; reduce student fees; Grade and Attendance Monitoring; Assistance accessing community services. In Fact the last five years the number of homeless children have increased from 120 to nearly 200 students a year, aging from elementary to high school aged children.

Pocatello Rotary would like to reach out and work with McKinney-Vento Program and provide a storage building/shed. The shed would be to store and collect clothes and supplies for the homeless children. This would be stored on and near the school district property, in a region that has been identified as the most needed demographic of children suffering from homelessness.

The Rotary club of Pocatello is looking forward to providing this building and starting a multiple year service project of helping provide clothing to these deserving homeless youth of our community, to help instill, what clothes may offer, some sense of self confidence in an ever so difficult circumstances. Our club intends on working to collect clothes or funds for the Rotary Youth Closet to help McKinney-Vento in identifying the youth with these needs in our schools.

There are a couple of things you need to do in your application: 1. Change the application to the 2016-17 year; 2. Change your title to more clearly reflect to readers what the project is, something like, "Building to store supplies for the homeless"; 3. Incorporate a detailed spending plan into your narrative, to describe why the project is estimated at $5,000. This is a requirement of all Tier 3 grants. If you have an estimate from a vendor, upload it to the documents section as a pdf file, making reference to it in your narrative. Signature process has been cancelled: you need to include in your narrative a detailed spending plan(not just a total amount of money, but specifics on how you plan to spend the money). If you're buying a prefab building, then upload a pdf copy of an estimate from your vendor. Once this is done you can resend for signatures, Thor and Time (not Steve).
