Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Casper, WY

Total Budget: $2,200

Area of Focus: Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Install three benches along a path adjacent to an assisted living facility.

The City of Casper installed a one mile paved path along the drainageway that passes through Long Park over 10 years ago. Meadow Winds Assisted Living constructed a 75 bed facility adjacent to the path at the midway point. In keeping with its mission to enrich the lives of seniors in the Casper area, Reveille Rotary wishes to continue with our Benches for Seniors program and install 3 benches along the Long Path. One of the benches will be at Meadow Winds and the others will be roughly 1,000 feet to the north and south. Only 1 bench now exists along the path and it is toward the south end. In addition to the residents at Meadow Winds, the residents who live in the neighborhood will benefit from the benches. An estimated 380 apartments abut the drainageway. A significant number of the residents of the apartments are seniors. In addition to support from a District 5440 Grant, Reveille Rotary and the Casper Rotary Foundation will finance the project. The total estimated project cost is $2,200 and the District is being asked for $1,000 of support. The club members will assemble the benches, pour the concrete pads and install the benches. The project will be completed in 2017.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

Two of the benches have been installed and are in use. The final bench is to be placed in Long Park at the north end of the Long Park drainageway path. The portion of the path that is within the park, along with all the walks, are being replaced in the summer of 2018. The concrete pad for the final bench will be poured concurrent with the construction of the walks. Bids have been let for the park path/walk replacement project and work will commence in the spring of 2018 when weather permits. The assembled bench is in storage at the Casper Parks Department yard, and will be installed by park personal at no cost to Rotary.
