Summary: Provide affordable adaptive tricycles to children with special needs (disabilities) in San Clemente, California
The Rotary Club of San Clemente will partner with OC Special Spokes is a 501©3 nonprofit organization that provides affordable tricycles to individuals with special needs through fundraising and community events. Adaptive tricycles increase a child's mobility so that they have the opportunity to better engage in their respective neighborhoods and communities with their peers while boosting their overall health and mental status. Rotarians connect with families in need and coordinate with volunteer physical and occupational therapists. Each adaptive tricycle prospect is evaluated to ensure proper fit and safety of the rider. Each custom adaptive tricycle cost $900, some even more. All tricycles are custom specified and then purchased by OC Special Spokes from AMBUCS International, a nonprofit organization on the east coast. Thus, five (5) tricycles total $4,500. San Clemente Rotary Club volunteers coordinate the operation. It begins with a prospect selection and fitting day event, assembly of the tricycles upon their arrival in Orange County, then in the special presentation event to the child or adult each tricycle for whom the tricycle has been made. Beneficiaries are children and a few young adults who are encumbered with special needs maladies. (Disabilities)
