Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Newport Beach California

Total Budget: $3,032

Area of Focus: Water and sanitation

Activity Type: Water: Volunteer Services

Summary: Funds will be used to construct four kayak racks and purchase supplies to support the NIRC Back Bay Clean-Up Program

Over the past 2 ½ years, The Newport-Irvine Rotary Club has sponsored a monthly Back-Bay Clean-Up program. Our volunteers (including Rotaractors and Interactors) have used kayaks donated by the Newport Aquatic Center to collect over 7 tons of trash from the Newport Beach Upper Back Bay. The Newport Beach Back Bay Conservancy has recently received funding for 20 kayaks which will be specifically designated for this program. We are seeking District Grant Funds for materials to construct four racks (two for this new kayak fleet and two to replace existing racks at NAC. Construction of the racks will occur in the month of August, 2016. The racks will be built and installed at the Newport Aquatic Center. We additionally need funds to cover monthly expenses for the clean-up program (see budgets for details). NIRC members will provide the labor for constructing the racks.
