Implementation of a new aspect to the provision of emergency services to families in temporary financial hardship - provision of hygiene and health products as required in addition to food.
Families who are experiencing a temporary bad time financially for various reasons may require temporary food and hygiene support. This is designed so that both parents and children are well nourished, but also able to take care of fundamental hygiene issues properly as well. The Yorba Linda Food Bank is now an officially recognized EFAP agency, i.e. an Emergency Food Assistance Program agency. Our financial contributions are used to acquire food and now hygiene products at a considerably reduced cost from suppliers such as Second Harvest Food Bank, as well as food at reduced rates from our local supermarkets such as Stater Brothers. Four Rotarians volunteer their time on a weekly basis through the year to stock the shelves and fridges, package food hand hygiene products for handing over to families in need of assistance. Our contributions typically assist between 250 to 300 persons annually. This number can increase substantially, but other donors also assist fulfill the need. In most cases these are families with 2 children. Our goal is to ensure that no child goes hungry during the time the family is experiencing an economic crisis and that all members of the family receive basic hygiene care as well. Our activities are monthly beginning during the first week of July, 2015.
