Parker County Center of Hope, a local nonprofit organization focused on helping families in poverty, helps strengthen family literacy through their Family Empowerment Program. This program not only provides reading books to children of all ages, but helps parents understand the importance of teaching early reading skills to their children. Funds requested will support the Center's Family Empowerment program by providing low-income families with early reading books in English and Spanish that provide a positive parent-child interaction. These books target baby and toddlers during their early years of development and serve as an introduction to family literacy activities. Educational notes positioned throughout these readers will teach parents what to expect from 1- to 3-year old children and how to engage them in read-aloud experiences.
The Aledo Rotary Chapter is very involved in improving lives in the community. In fact, we have supported other educational programs that focus on children's literacy. All members of the Aledo Chapter are invited to the Center to distribute the books.
