The primary goal of Project Mercy, a non-profit San Diego agency, is to help improve the basic living standards and quality of life for destitute families in the colonias east of Tijuana, Mexico. Recognizing the extreme need to alleviate the health hazards incurred by poor makeshift housing which invite rodents, respiratory and bronchial ailments and unsanitary conditions for the disposal of human waste, they have organized a means with the financial and hands-on help of organizations such as RI to address this basic need by building homes for designated needy families. It is always a difficult decision as to which families will be selected to have a new home, but families with small children, single mothers and handicapped people usually head the list. It is anticipated that 15 or 16 houses will be built this year.
The Rotary Club of Fallbrook in conjunction with the Interact Clubs of Fallbrook High School and Francis Parker High School would like to help construct one of these houses on October 1, 2016. The cost of the material for one house is $4900 and an additional $600 for an outhouse. The Rotary Club of Fallbrook has pledged $2,750 to purchase the materials and would respectfully like District matching funds to obtain the total material costs.
This is an opportunity for members of The Rotary Club of Fallbrook and Interactors from Fallbrook HS and Francis Parker HS to get involved and live the motto of "Service Above Self".
