Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Fallbrook, CA

Total Budget: $1,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Literacy

Summary: Providing books to students in Title 1 schools in Fallbrook, CA.

Many youth in the Fallbrook community struggle reading on grade level. One of the primary factors in children lacking in reading skills is the inability to access books. The Rotary Reading Day is a partnership between the Rotary Club of Fallbrook and the Boys & Girls Clubs of North County. Rotarians volunteer their time to attend the after school programs conducted by the Boys & Girls Clubs, located on the campuses of Title 1 schools in Fallbrook, and read books to the students. At the conclusion of the reading activity, all students can pick a book at their own grade level that they can take home. This is an exciting day for these students as many of them do not have their own books in their homes. Project funds will be used to purchase the books for the students. This event will take place in February 2017 at five Title 1 elementary schools in Fallbrook: Maie Ellis, Fallbrook Street, Live Oak, William H. Frazier and Vallecitos.
