Project Description

Country: Mexico

Location: San Diego

Total Budget: $5,000

Area of Focus: Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: Renovation

Summary: Beautification of orphanage in Valle de Guadalupe Mexico( Painting, repairs, cooking meals for kids)

This will be a one day project at the orphanage ( Casa de Los Ninos, affiliated with Corazon de Vida in Irvine, CA).

We have determined projects that will be completed. These include: painting volunteer dorms, doing landscaping and repairs around the orphanage complex. This will be a 1(possibly 2) day project and we hope to make it a recurring project.

Time line for project: trip date Aug 27 and 28th of 2016

6-1 month prior to trip

Raise money for the project with fundraiser, grants and participation fees

1-2 weeks prior to the trip

assemble supplies and items needed for the trip ( paint, food items for meals, plants for landscaping, construction supplies - dry wall, tools, hammer, nails ect ect)

reserve the rotary van for logistical help with transportation of volunteers to the site

make sure that waivers and participation fees are collected for volunteers

day of trip

meeting at ihop restaurant at the Otay Mesa border crossing at 7:30 am drive to orphanage approx 2-3 hr

assemble the group the day of the trip and travel to orphanage and work for one day

stay the night in a nearby hotel and if there is more work to be done the following day, return to finish work.

Next day

various activities in the local community: beach day or wine tasting in the nearby vineyards

return to border at approx 3 pm

Try to determine what could be implemented for ongoing and sustaining trips in the future.

We will need to buy the supplies to bring down to the orphanage so the grant would need to be made out to the organizer. If this is not possible please advise otherwise.
