Approximately, 30% of the students in the Burleson ISD are on free or reduced breakfast/lunches. These students, from lower income families, are provided with breakfast and lunches Monday through Friday during the school year and also during the summer months, thanks to a federal grant given to the Tarrant County Food Bank. However, no food is currently provided for the children on the weekends. The club's contribution, along with the district grant, will enable kids in these lower income families to have nutritious snacks on the weekends during the summer. Rotarians will donate the funds to another partner in the program, Pathway Church, to purchase the food for the program. Also, members of the club will assist in the actual "packing" of the snack bags. The project will be completed during May of 2017, but the funds will be distributed early in 2017.
