Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Arlington

Total Budget: $3,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: To provide incentive to kids in elementary school to achieve perfect attendance which will set them up for success throughout life.

Total Budget $3,000

The "Every Child, Every Seat, Every Day" initiative endeavors to show kids at a young age the importance of education. These students level of success in school will be determined by whether or not they are in class learning.

Many of the students in the Arlington ISD live in a low social economic area. Both parents work and typically are not able to get involved with their kids education. These kids are at risk for poor attendance which will lead to problems throughout their schooling. To incentivize these kids we will be giving away (2) tablets every six weeks to one boy and one girl who have achieved perfect attendance.

We have had had good success with this program over the past 6 years and seek to open it up with another school. School administrators have indicated that attendance has increased significantly across all grades due to the program.

The Arlington Sunrise Rotary Club has budgeted $1,500 for this initiative and requests a $1,500 match from District 5790.

Club Members Will:

1. Work with the school administrators to spread the word to all kids in all grades so school participation is high.

2. Through coordination with school administrators, each six weeks club members will attend the tablet giveaway.

Sustainability:

Our Club started this program 6 years ago. Since its inception the school administrators have expressed the value that the program has brought to getting the students excited about being in class which translates to higher success rates. The match allows the Club to add another elementary school to the program.
