The Need & the Project:
This project is to sponsor the Bulletproof Seminar, hosted by Jimmy Meeks. Jimmy Meeks is a retired police officer of 35 years, 30 of which were in Hurst under Steve Moore. This seminar is designed to help mentally prepare police officers of Dallas/Fort Worth, and specifically, the police officers of Hurst-Euless-Bedford, to survive deadly encounters. The recent killings of police officers in Dallas and around the country punctuate the need for different, continued training of our police officers. This project will more than cover the cost of each of the 45 police officers and 2 critical response officers from Hurst-Euless-Bedford to attend.
The keynote speaker is Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, a former Army Ranger and West Point Psychology Professor. His portion of the seminar, The Bulletproof Mind, addresses the missing component of preparing police officers mentally for violent confrontation. Quoting Colonel Grossman, "We don't really care what brand of firearm you've got in your hand; it's the software in your head and heart that matters."
Other speakers in include the Sheriff of Tarrant County, Bill Waybourn, Sergeant Houston Gass, and Officer Matt Pearce. Sergeant Houston Gass and Officer Matt Pearce both survived deadly encounters after being shot. Specifically, Officer Pearce credits this training for his survival.
The Timeline:
The training is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15th, 2016. It will be taking place at the Bob Bolen Public Safety Complex in Fort Worth. The 47 officers of Hurst-Euless-Bedford have already registered, and the event is set. We simply need to come through on our part to sponsor the event. The funds will be used to pay for the event, the speakers, the reception, and most important of all, the training for the officers.
Club Member Involvement:
Police Chief Jeff Gibson and Police Chief Steve Moore are members of our club and both said this training would be phenomenal for their officers. They also said that were Police Chief Mike Brown, also a member of our club, not on vacation in Florida at this moment, he would say the same thing. Through these members, 47 officers from our represented cities will be attending this training. This project will touch the lives of many of the peace officers that our club directly represents.
