San Diego Coastal Rotary Fund (SD Coastal Rotary) will be working in partnership with Sahaya International, a US 501(c)3 organization, to help relieve poverty in rural Vietnam by providing adequate homes for impoverished families located in Vietnam in the province of Kien Giang (located along the Mekong Delta region of southern Vietnam). The impoverished province of Kien Giang, Vietnam contains few recognizable home shelters, while many families live in tarp structures and mud floor structures. The infrastructure of the current homes are very weak. The roofs are comprised of leaves and plastic tarps that provide minimal protection from the tropical climate. As the rain leaks through, the undeveloped dwelling floors turn into mud. In addition, families struggle to find the resources to send their children to school. Many children are unable to have any type of education because of their financial difficulties. This results in an ongoing cycle of poverty.
Each constructed house includes a bed with bedding, a bag of rice, two buckets for rainwater, cooking supplies and a clock.
