Summary: Boxes of food provided to families struggling financially in Kemmerer, WY
For over two decades, local volunteers have coordinated with the Kemmerer Food Bank and local businesses to provide boxes of food at Christmas to families who are struggling financially. The food boxes include all the components for a traditional holiday turkey dinner. This project has helped in some years as few as 30 families and in other years as many as 155 families. In 2015, 55 families received assistance. With the downturn in the economy, need is anticipated to be high in 2016 while at the same time, funding from both individuals and industry is tighter than ever. The Kemmerer Rotary Club is applying for a District Centennial Grant of $1,000 which the Kemmerer Club will match with $500 to purchase frozen turkeys and complementary food items for approximately 30 families. Rotarians will assist with assembly and distribution of the food boxes.
