Summary: Build Media Booth and covered storage at a youth sports field in Ketchikan, Alaska
Ketchikan gets nearly 13 feet of rain every year. Currently patrons, scorekeepers, and media recording or reporting on events at the track and sports field have no weather protection. The field has approximately 400 youth users in organized leagues for soccer, track, and football. It also has many community users. The lack of weather protection also makes it harder to operate the scoreboard when the weather is poor. The project would have the Rotary club acquire materials and design for a two story media booth with storage on the lower floor. The construction would be by club members and community user group volunteers. In connection with this project the local municipality would install ADA accessible bleachers to improve the patron viewing experience. Project costs for the media booth are estimated to total approximately $15,000 total including design. The intention is that the booth would be constructed late summer 2017, weather permitting.
