The Palmer Club has been working with the Malawi Children's Village for several years. We work with the executive director to identify the greatest needs each year. This year housing was again identified as a priority need for the families supporting the orphaned children. Each year the rains destroy many of the older mud houses. This means that the families must be split up until a new structure can be built. In 2016, 5 Palmer Rotarians traveled to Malawi and assisted in the building of homes.
The funds will be used to purchase the materials needed. The cost to build a long term house is $700. That provides, fired bricks, glass windows set in wood frames, a framed wood door and a metal roof. These homes are expected to withstand more than 20 years of use.
The Palmer Rotarians will participate by raising the funds to match this grant.
