Project Description Country: USA Location: Girdwood, AK Total Budget: $2,000 Area of Focus: Economic and community development Activity Type: Community Development: General Summary: Community Garden refurbishing and expansion for the community of Girdwood, AK Girdwood is a small community of 2,500 people with a wide range of incomes, work opportunities, housing and food needs. The Girdwood Community Garden, an extension of the Girdwood Food Pantry, was created 5 years ago to provide raised garden beds as a community resource to grow vegetables/food using sustainable practices, to provide organic gardening education to individuals about the food plant growth cycle and to provide an outdoor space for community members to congregate and work together. It also would provide fresh vegetables to the Food Pantry for distribution. This project will take place during the months of May through September. Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed) Due to a rainy 2017 fall and spring, the project has extended through June 2018. The goal is to complete the project as soon as possible.
