Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Boise

Total Budget: $500

Areas of Focus: Peace and conflict prevention/resolution, Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: Field trips and Program Supplies for Refugee Students in Boise

The Integration Specialist (Jodi Larson-Farrow) at Agency for New Americans (a 501c organization) works with refugee students at Borah High school on a weekly basis and also does a Women's class on a regular basis. The purpose of both of the classes(that include field trips) is to help new Americans learn about human rights, American culture, rights in the work place, parenting in the U.S., coping skills for dealing with past trauma, domestic violence/sexual assault issues and to become familiar and integrate to their new community. The grant money would be used to pay for costs of these field trips (example - tickets to the zoo, Discovery Center, Boise Aquarium, transportation costs, other program supply needs). Rotarians would be involved by helping out in the classes and doing preparation work.

on your project page, enter $500 as DDF amount, change project year to 2017-18, and tell us in your description how Rotarians will be involved in this project. We don't just give $ to other organizations in need. Rotarians need to be involved with them in some way. We do not write checks to other organizations; change the check recipient to Boise Metro Rotary Club

Please change the name of your project to better identify what it is, e.g."Field trips and program supplies for refugee students" Are you certain that the entire $500 will be spent on the items you've listed? You can request less than that amount if that's all you'll need. Receipts for each expenditure will be required and you'll have to work with the Agency to make sure they retain those and give them to you for reporting.

The Women's Program ran for approximately 6 months and went well, approximately 7 Rotary members provided direct support, some of those multiple times, including providing professional consultation to the program, providing transportation, child care, support in the group program help with set up.It was a successful program. I will be submitting a completion report soon.
