Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Pocatello, ID

Total Budget: $2,232

Area of Focus: Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: Renovation

Summary: Replace inadequate kitchen stove and work table at the Salvation Army Pocatello Outpost to enable continued and expanded soup kitchen and other food service for disadvantaged and needy population.

Pocatello Salvation Army Outpost is the only daily operating soup kitchen in the community serving a growing needy population. https://www.facebook.com/salvationarmypocatello/?rf=109617412409521 Over 4,300 unduplicated persons were served in the last year, with 20-50 people eating one hot meal daily. Service numbers are growing. Kitchen upgrade to a range with more cooking surfaces and oven space is needed. Kitchen work table upgrade is needed to provide additional working surface at a taller height to reduce ergonomic strain on the cook.

The current stove is an older standard home range to be replaced by a 5-burner, double-oven convection range. This upgrade will allow more and better food preparation. The replacement stove MSRP is $2,049 discounted to $1,699 by local dealer Pocatello Electric plus $39.95 delivery and installation for project cost $1,740.

The current kitchen work table is a standard library-type utility table. The replacement table will be 30 x 60 inch maple surface 36 inches high, 500 lb capacity with adjustable service shelf. The replacement table cost is $349.00 plus $142.85 shipping for project cost $491.85.

The Pocatello Salvation Army Outpost is mostly funded by local donations such as holiday bell ringing, fundraiser dinners and appeals to support operating costs of facilities, staff, food and supplies. The outpost lacks funds to purchase the needed kitchen replacement items. All Pocatello Rotary Clubs support the Salvation Army, serve on its board, and advocate its work.

In a project this size, the DDF request could be 50% of the total - why not ask for that? Revise your financing, then initiate club signature process. Signatures required only from primary contact person and 2017-18 club president.
