RC of Steamboat Springs has a 10-year partnership with RC Agua Prieta. Every January, we take members of our Interact Club to do service projects at schools and orphanages there. In 2016, we got a District Grant and purchased 55 water tanks for homes without running water.
When we were there in 2016, the Mayor asked us for a garbage truck. After exploring numerous options, we learned of a charitable foundation in Mexico, Congregacion Mariana Trinitarian (CMT). In April 2017, PE Steve Sehnert and PP Kris Hammond traveled to Agua Prieta and met with the Mayor and other city officials, members of the Agua Prieta RC, and a liason with CMT. They made the following proposal: if we buy 230 water tanks (USD $26,000), CMT will pay for 46% of a new garbage truck. A similar project had successful results in the Sonoran capital of Hermosillo.
Our total investment for the water tanks and 54% of a garbage truck is about $40,000. We are pursuing both District and Global Grants to fund this project. Please refer to Global Grant G-1242
