Summary: Rotarians and Interactors will build a home for a needy family in the very poor area of East Tijuana, Mexico
Each year Project Mercy, a non-profit San Diego agency invites organizations to build houses for the destitute families in the colonias east of Tijuana, Mexico. The Rotary Club of Fallbrook has proudly participated in this endeavor for several years now and the moment we complete the home and hand over the keys to a well deserving family, we reiterate our commitment and enthusiasm to do it again. For some Rotarians and Interact students this was the first time to go to Mexico and actually see, experience and interact with families so close to our border but living in such poor conditions. Recognizing the extreme need to alleviate the health hazards incurred by poor makeshift housing inspired us to be able to help in even a small way.
The Rotary Club of Fallbrook in conjunction with the Interact Clubs of Fallbrook High School and Francis Parker High School would like to help construct one of these houses on October 7, 2017. The cost of the material for one house is $5,250 and an additional $650 for an outhouse for a total of $5,900. The Rotary Club of Fallbrook has pledged $2,950 to purchase the materials and would respectfully like District matching funds to obtain the total material costs.
This is an opportunity for fellow Rotarians, future Rotarians, Interact students, families of all sizes and ages to come together for one day and truly live the motto of "Service Above Self".
