Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Fallbrook

Total Budget: $2,600

Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Health: General

Summary: Placing markers on the Monserate Mountain hiking trail in Fallbrook to indicate position on the trail.

With 20,000 hikers using the trail each year,at least a half dozen rescues are done on Monserate Mountain hiking trail each year. When the fire department gets the call, the position of the victim is difficult to describe. The fire department has requested that the trail be marked with position markers each 1/4 mile. This would allow the fire department to quickly assess the best extraction point for the victim and improve their ability to reach the victim in a reasonable amount of time.

This trail is also used on September 11 each year for a commemorative hike up the mountain with each 1/4 mile representing 10 floors of the World Trade Center. Thousands of local community members participate in this event each year.

This project would meet these needs by placing sign posts at each 1/4 mile identifying the position on the mountain and the corresponding "floor". Also included is a sign at the trailhead explaining the significance of the markers and a brass plaque at the summit.

The funds would be used for purchase of the signs, decals for markers and an installation tool for the markers.

Timeline for the project is to be completed by March 2018.

Club members would be involved in the installation of the signs, marking the position of the signs, and improving our own health by hiking the mountain!
