The Rotary Club of Chula Vista respectfully requests matching funds of $500 for the literacy grant in support of the Tijuana, Mexico Library Project.
The Rotary Club of Chula Vista's International Projects Committee, in partnership with the Tijuana Rotary Club, will provide books and educational resources for a library serving a disproportionate share of underprivileged children in Tijuana, Mexico. The Club will provide at least 100 children's books selected by the library to be available to children in the equivalent of grades K-3, attending schools serving low-income students. Beyond books, the Chula Vista Rotary Club may also purchase additional educational resources, if the budget allows.
This program has been very well-received by Rotarians in Tijuana and by Tijuana community leaders. In 2017, with the help of the District's Matching Grant Program, the Chula Vista Rotary Club was able to purchase and deliver over 100 NEW children's books. The library and the children were thrilled!
Project Timeline: Spring/Summer 2018
Number of Rotarians Involved: 4-6 from Chula Vista Rotary Club and support from the Rotary Club of Tijuana.
