Summary: After school enrichment programming for elementary students in Jackson, Wyoming. Centennial Grant
There is a significant wage and opportunity gap in Jackson, Wyoming, especially in the winter. Many of our students, especially Latino and/or low income families who don't have access to winter sports, go home to empty houses or have fewer opportunities to pursue after-school enrichment. These opportunities, while also providing fun and stimulating activities for kids, engage the mind, promote literacy, science and math, and provide a critical opportunity for students to practice basic personal intercommunication in English and the use of new vocabulary. By utilizing Rotary funds, the schools will be able to purchase Lego robotics kits so we can create Lego Engineering and Lego Robotics clubs for students after school between late November and March. These materials can be reused every year by school staff who can continue to provide these opportunities. Club members are asked to volunteer with the school clubs and help connect the clubs with members of our community who have ties to engineering so students can see the practical application of these skills.
