Project Description Country: USA Location: Burleson, TX Total Budget: $3,000 Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development Activity Type: Food/Agriculture: Volunteer Services Summary: Support the creation of 9 garden towers at 3 elementary campuses in Burleson, TX. The BISD is embarking on a project to purchase the supplies necessary to build and maintain garden towers at 3 elementary campuses Burleson. The gardens are highly mobile and can be moves from class to class to help teach students about the growing cycle. They will be placed in high visibility locations on each campus, allowing students easy access to tend them and for parents and others in the community to learn about them. Once food is harvested from the towers, their are plans in place to use the food in the school cafeteria or sell it to local vendors. They will also donate a potion of the food to local food pantries. Members of the club will assist in the purchase of the material used in the garden towers and we will also plan an event to go and see the towers in action.
