Cheyenne Community Rotaract Club is pleased to present this proposal for the Rotaract/Interact District 5440 grant. If awarded, our Club would like to use the matching grant money, along with the money raised from our Annual May Day Basket fundraiser, to install four bicycle racks in Cheyenne to benefit the local community and visitors.
The total of our estimated proposal is $750.00. Our Club plans on raising $250.00 in the hopes that the District will use the 2:1 match of $500.00, as depicted in the grant flyer, to cover the expenses described in our proposed budget and any expenses we may have overlooked. This proposal idea falls under Rotary's areas of service of disease prevention and treatment and economic and community development.
Not only is riding your bike fun, but it offers a wide array of health benefits. Just to name a few, bicycling burns calories, lowers blood pressure, helps with weight loss, builds muscle, increases energy, and prevents cardiovascular disease. Bicycling can also reduce stress and anxiety due to sitting in busy traffic, exploring a new or congested area, or trying to find a parking spot.
The availability of bicycle racks can also aid in economic and community development. Having bike racks will encourage community members and out-of-towners to check out Cheyenne by getting a drink at a local brewery, grabbing a bite to eat at a restaurant, or shopping at a hometown store. Bike racks will also allow people the ease of not finding a parking spot so they can partake in downtown concerts, festivals, and celebrations. For people utilizing the bike racks, the money they would typically spend on gas and car maintenance could ultimately be used to boost the local economy and attendance at community events.
The installation of bike racks also supports Cheyenne's Metropolitan Planning Organization's (MPO) On Street Bicycle and Greenway Plan. According to MPO, the Plan includes short and long-term goals to increase bicycle ridership by offering convenient access to jobs and businesses within the community by making street and trail use more attractive, available, and safe.
The bike racks will be placed in visible areas around town proudly displaying stickers fixed on welded steel disks that show they were donated by Rotaract and Rotary International. This grant proposal will involve the City and Rotaract members through the fundraising, planning, and installation steps.
We appreciate you taking our grant proposal into consideration as the installation of bicycle racks fits into two of Rotary's main areas of focus and will benefit the local Cheyenne community and visitors.
Having spearheaded the Cheyenne multi-club matching grant for Chemo Care Packages last year, our Club appreciates and understands the significance of receiving assistance from the District level.
