Area of Focus: Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
Activity Type:
Education: General
Summary: Work with K thrugh 3rd grade students in 11 schools on the Lower Kenai Peninsula to create banners exploring the theme of friendship and peace withot boundaries.
The purpose of the project is to plant seeds of peace in children so they will promote peace and friendship throughout their lives. The goal of the project is to have children make peace banners that will be exchanged in their home towns and throughout the world. We are partnering in this project with the Friendship Without Boundaries Foundation in Germany to disseminate the banners worldwide. For this project, we will be providing banner material, nontoxic acrylic paint, and all other supplies to ultimately hang and display the banners. Members of the Rotary Club of Homer Downtown will be helping with the project and we are also partnering with participating schools and local artists to help facilitate the project.

All banners were displayed in the Homer High School commons in February and will be displayed again this month through May, when the Homer Peace Choir will perform. Some banners will be taken to the Rotary International Convention in Hamburg, Other banners will be exchanged with schools in Alaska, Australia,South Africa and other foreign countries, to be added as the opportunity arises.
