This project is a placeholder for a payment of $1,000 made by District 5495 to Crutches for Africa.
Nancy Van Pelt, District 5495 DG will use this $1,000 donation for the transportation expenses for the 40-foot shipping container the Interact clubs in our district helped to fill with crutches and other mobility devices. That container was shipped to Kenya, in anticipation of the arrival of our AZ Interact Ambassadors Team, who will be working with our Kenya partners, from June 29 - July 16, to distribute the devices to crippled Polio victims and others there in the Rift Valley of Kenya. At this point, our Rotarian partner Crutches 4 Africa non-profit organization, which is based in Colorado, handled the shipping of the container, and they advanced the $7,000 shipping and trucking expenses involved, to get the container to the location in Kenya from which our Ambassadors Team will be working when they arrive.
When we are financially able to do so, our Interact District 5495 plans to reimburse Crutches 4 Africa for the $7,000 cost of transporting this year's container of mobility devices to Kenya. At that time, we will be able to issue to you for Rotary District 5495 an acknowledgement of the grant from the district for this Interact District 5495 international service project (our signature Interact Crutches 4 Africa Project), and we should be able to include with that letter an acknowledgement from the Rotarian Crutches 4 Africa organization of our $7,000 reimbursement to that organization for the shipping expenses they advanced for our container that has already been sent to Kenya.
