The La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club would like to assist the Uptown Community Service Center in the construction of a shower facility to serve the homeless that utilize the center. It would be the only dedicated shower in the North Park area for the homeless community.
Uptown Community Service Center is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego. It is run by dedicated volunteers and provides services to over 2,000 homeless and very-low income persons each year. We help our neighbors in need by providing:
Information and referrals
Mailbox & Message Center
A Computer Center with internet access and use of fax and telephones
Food distribution twice a week
Clothing & Hygiene Supplies
We've toured the facility and are beginning the initial steps with club members who have experience in construction, architecture, and project management in the construction of the shower. We would expect a time frame of July 2018 to October 2018 depending on how smoothly the process goes.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
The construction of shower facilities has been delayed due to permitting difficulties; however, there was a critical need for additional mail slots in the main center, so the LJGT Club purchased and installed a new 300 slot unit to accommodate the more efficient delivery of mail to the homeless clientele. Balance of funds were used to supply much needed men's underwear to the clientele.
