Summary: The first holding tank of a six-pond fish farm for a community with 30 orphaned children in Zacapa, Guatemala.

Rotarian Valerie Vander Schaaf and her husband, Wayne, are relocating to Zacapa, Guatemala this year. Through previous years of travel, they have identified many ways to help this area become more self-sufficient. These include an elementary school and tradeschool for the children, and a fish farm for sustainability of the community. This farm will consist of six ponds. The fund request is for material for the first of these holding tanks. The tanks will be built as the funds become available.

The foundation for the first holding tanks, which ended up being a set of 3, is complete and further work to make the individual tanks is taking place. It was necessary to place 3 holding tanks per cement structure, something that was unclear until they started the work. This first structure will be a pilot pond to test the fish farm out.
