Project Description Country: USA Location: East Los Angeles, CA Total Budget: $1,250 Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development Activity Type: Education: Volunteer Services Summary: Three-day immersion experience to East Los Angeles, visiting and serving with local organizations responding to the homelessness crisis. Trip focuses on fostering understanding of the necessity of holistic approaches to this social justice issue. Students will serve at several nonprofits throughout Los Angeles, including shelters, soup kitchens and outreach organizations, putting their faith into action and developing their understanding of Catholic Social Teaching as it is rooted in service to those around us. This experience is open to 20 students per year and enables us to maintain long-standing commitments to several non-profits in the LA area. Funds will be allocated to provide transportation throughout the trip, meals for our students and donations to the various organizations that host and support us throughout the three day program.
