The Rotary Club of Mesa has worked with the Mesa School District to focus on the literacy needs of students at Lincoln Elementary School. The school is ranked among those schools qualifying for reduced or free lunches above 90% of the students. In the past we have distributed dictionaries each year to 3rd grade students.
In this project we will focus our efforts specifically on the media services department and the library specifically. Working with the school staff we have determined a need to replace and update the books available to all students. Along with this a part of our club will volunteer with a reading/mentoring program once the books have been received and students have been identified by the staff as in need of extra assistance to improve reading and comprehension. A small portion of the monies budgeted will be spent adding and repairing shelving for the books to insure they are available to the students within the library/media center.
