Project Description Country: USA - Mexico Location: Tecate Total Budget: $7,343 Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Water and sanitation Activity Type: Water: Sanitation Summary: Install 5 septic systems in homes in a very poor area of Tecate, Mexico, collaborating with USA (Santa Ana) based Corazon. USA based Corazon develops communities in very areas such as Tecate near Tijuana. Families earn the right to have a house built by volunteers. YLSRC has been building homes for more than 6 years now. We add a septic tank and to the bathroom, or retrofit homes as needed. The owners are identified by Corazon as cooperative members of the community, helping others, and thus we are provided with deserving families. We purchase the materials at a discounted rate in Mexico. Corazon assists us. We then go to Mexico and install the septic tanks and teach the families how to maintain them. Typically more than 20 of our club members visit during the course of the year and assist with the installation process.
