Summary: Security fence to protect special needs/kindergarten in the town of Kostajnica, Republika Srpska, Bosnia
Since 2010, Hope School, Bosnia has operated in a renovated bombed kindergarten that includes special needs children. Nearly 80 students are not only educated but also integrated as never before. The local population has learned to be inclusive and the local government has partnered by providing utilities, security lighting, and playground equipment. As the area is desperately unemployed and rural, the local youth are prone to mischief. The school needs to replace the crumbling fence to protect the kids, the property and to aid in the sustainability of the program. Cherish Our Children, International has provided 1/2 of the 5K euro needed for the rebuilt fence. A $1500 matching district grant for the Coronado Club will complete the needed funding for the fence. As the originating Rotarian, I live in the area six months out of the year and do field visits and general directorship. I am planning a Coronado Club group trip to this program, similar to the recent trip to Missionvale in South Africa.
