Project Description Country: USA Location: Chandler Arizona Total Budget: $11,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: One dictionary per 3rd grade student within the Chandler Unified School District This project is a multiclub initiative with Sun Lakes, Chandler Downtown and Chandler Horizon clubs with plans for 3500 dictionaries to be purchased and distributed to 3rd grade students within the Chandler Unified School District (CUSD). The total cost of this is projected to be $11000 with the Sun Lakes Club being on the hook for $6000 or just over half of the total. Many of the elementary schools in CUSD consist of children who are 100% on subsidized breakfast and lunch. This dictionary aka literacy tool, may well be the only book that anyone has ever given them and it may indeed be the only book within their home. We will have a sticker party where Rotarians will label the inside covers of the dictionaries with a 4-Way Test sticker, and club members, in teams of 2 or 3, will personally distribute the dictionaries to the students in their classrooms. The distribution will be completed by October, 2018. Project funds will be used solely for the purchase of dictionaries, and the purchase of the 4-Way Test labels.
