Summary: 2,000 dictionaries provided to the most needy students in the Mesa, Arizona Public School System
With direct input from the Mesa School Superintendent, We have identified 3,200 third grade students most in need of basic literacy tools. Our club expects to help 2,400 of these students by purchasing, labeling and distributing these dictionaries to these students in September, 2018. These dictionaries are often their first book. Many students in this population do not have the basics at home(such as a dictionary, ruler, or pencils); computers with internet access are few and far between for this population. We will purchase dictionaries, labels and bookmarks and distribute them by November, 2018. Mesa Rotarians will meet to label, organize and distribute the dictionaries to each participating elementary school. Our project includes a 1 hour Assembly at each school, hosted and directed by our Rotarians. We introduce the students to the basic methods and literacy tools available within their dictionaries. Our budget will fund 2,400 dictionaries.
